Hitachi C12RSH Sliding Compound Miter Saw

Review of the Hitachi C12RSH 15 Amp 12-Inch Sliding Compound Miter Saw with Laser

Innovation Delivers Enhanced Performance!

When I was reviewing the Hitachi C10FCH2, I came across its sister-saw, the C12RSH, which uses a 12-inch blade. Its specs and innovative features really stood out, so I decided to review it as well. The C12RSH is an incredibly versatile miter saw with a large cutting capacity which many woodworking tradesmen will find useful.

Hitachi makes professional quality miter saws for a variety of different applications such as woodwork, metalwork and drilling, and they have achieved many firsts in the industry with their wide range of power tools, which is why they’re considered to be industry leaders.

Compact Glide System

Most sliding miter saws need significant rear clearance when in use, but the ingenious compact glide system on the Hitachi C12RSH lets you use it without any rear clearance at all! This is one innovative feature that clearly sets the C12RSH apart from the competition. This miter saw also has Hitachi’s patented fixed rail system which allows the saw head to smoothly glide along two rails. These rails don’t stick out from the back of the saw, and they stay securely in place, giving you the ability to use the miter saw in smaller workspaces. You can even use it against a wall, which is impossible with most miter saws.

Precise Miters and Bevels

As we know, accuracy and precision are highly important features to look at when you are considering a miter saw, and the specs on the C12RSH indicate that this saw is more than capable of accurately cutting both miters and bevels. The miter scale goes up to 46 degrees on the left and 57 degrees on the right, and there is a micro-miter knob you can use to set precise angles.

For bevel cutting, the bevel scale goes up to 45 degrees on both the left and the right. In true bevel cutting style, the Hitachi C12RSH lets you conveniently flip the saw to make cuts on both sides. Similar to the micro-miter knob, there is a micro-bevel knob that you can use to adjust the angle. There are also the usual positive miter and bevel stops to allow for faster cutting of common angles.
Another feature that’s geared towards precision is the vertical handle, which was ergonomically designed with a vibration reducing elastomer grip to help you stay in control of the saw and make more accurate cuts. The Hitachi C12RSH was designed to be easy to use so that even those who are new to woodworking will find operating it to be simple.

Laser Straight

I know many woodworkers prefer their miter saws to have a laser guide system to help them make more accurate first time cuts. The C12RSH comes equipped with Hitachi’s exclusive Laser Marker System for exactly that purpose. What separates this laser system from those on competing miter saws is the fact that the laser marker can be adjusted to the left or right of your cut line according to your preference, where the laser on most miter saws is fixed on one side and cannot be adjusted in this way. Using the Hitachi Laser Marker System is incredibly easy; all you do is set the laser to line up with your cut line and make your cut. That’s all there is to it.

You Might Need Help Finding Help

While I don’t particularly like to read instruction manuals, I do feel that if I have to resort to reading one for any reason, it should be well written, detailed, and easy to read. From what I have read about the user manual for the Hitachi C12RSH, it needs some work. If you need help and can’t find what you need in the manual, you can always call Hitachi’s customer support line or check online miter saw communities and forums, as they can be very helpful in most cases.

Find A Good Spot For This Saw

Weighing in at 81 pounds, the Hitachi C12RSH definitely does not fall into the portable category. It is more ideally used as a stationary miter saw, but what it lacks in portability it certainly makes up for in performance. In addition to the features I’ve already discussed that make this a high performance cutting machine, the 15-amp motor powerfully spins the blade to cut through even tough materials like concrete and metal.

A Solid Solution

This is one heavy machine and if you don’t need to move your miter saw around, this can be a great tool to have in your workshop. It’s capable of cutting a wider variety of materials than the average 12-inch miter saw, you can use it in a smaller space than most, and it has some amazing features that will make your work easier while increasing your ability to make precise, accurate cuts time after time. Last, but not least, the C12RSH is backed by an impressive 5-year limited warranty so you can buy with confidence.
