Bosch 4310 10-Inch Slide Miter Saw

Review of the Bosch 4310 10-Inch Dual Bevel Slide Miter Saw

Bosch Blasts Through Big Projects

Whether you do solo woodworking projects in your garage woodwork shop like I do, or you are an experienced woodworking professional, a durable and accurate miter saw is always a wise investment. A miter saw can be used for many different wood cutting jobs and, if you get one that’s well made, it can make your life a lot easier. Well, maybe not your entire life, but it can certainly make cutting wood easier. The Bosch 4310 10-Inch Dual Bevel Slide Miter Saw promises to be the ideal miter saw for all your carpentry and woodworking needs. Let’s have a look at its features and you can decide for yourself.

Dual Bevel Does Double duty

I just love a power tool that comes packed with features and, from the looks of it, the Bosch 4310 falls into this category. First of all, it has dual bevels. For woodworking newbies who may not know what a bevel is, here’s a quick rundown: a bevel is basically a certain type of cut that you make at the edge of a work piece so that it is not perpendicular. I like to use bevels on woodworking projects that require softened edges or more creative finishes. When you have a dual bevel miter saw like the Bosch 4310, you can make a bevel and a miter cut at the same time. Needless to say, that can save a lot of time and help you to cut both angles quickly and accurately.

Patented Up-Front Controls

The Bosch 4310 features Bosch’s patented Up-Front Controls, which is one of the things that makes this model stand out from the crowd. The all-metal range selector and bevel lock lever are both located on the front of the saw. The location makes the saw safer to use, as you don’t have to reach behind it to change the bevel settings. This gives you more control when using the device and it also makes it more comfortable to use. For people who may not be very technologically inclined, having the controls mounted on the front of the saw make it a lot more user-friendly. If you are a woodworking novice, this feature can definitely be a big help while you learn to work your way around the machine.

Packs A Powerful Punch

Just how powerful is the Bosch 4310? Well, it’s equipped with a 15 amp, 3 horsepower motor. That is certainly more than enough power to cut through a wide variety of wood types with ease. For working with longer pieces, the Bosch 4310 has a large base that can be extended up to 37.25 inches. The length provides more support when cutting long work pieces and it also helps prevent pieces from getting away while you are cutting.

Amazing Accuracy

Many of the features on the Bosch 4310 are designed to help you make better, more accurate cuts. When doing woodworking, achieving accuracy with your cuts is very important; even a .25 inch mistake can cost you dearly. The Bosch 4310 comes with 31.6 miter and 33.9 bevel detents which make projects like cutting crown molding fast, accurate, and incredibly easy. This miter saw also allows you to make micro-fine adjustments for projects requiring fractional measurements outside of the miter detents. The scales are conveniently located to the front of the saw, making them easy to read and increasing the accuracy of each cut. You will use less wood and save more time when you make more accurate cuts.

The electronic brake on this model allows you to make repetitive cuts faster and more precise. The bevel lock and range selector which are located on the front of the machine also allow you to easily access the bevel settings to ensure you are making precise cuts. Yet another feature to help you make accurate cuts is the miter detent override. This lets you hold the detent lever away from the work surface, giving you more control so your cuts can be more accurate. With all these features geared towards making very accurate cuts, it seems you really have to make an effort to get it wrong.

Lefty Friendly!

I am left-handed and I find that with many power tools I have to adapt and use my right hand when using them. The Bosch 4310, however, is designed with an adjustable handle which makes it easy to cut with either hand! It is officially a lefty-friendly device and that earns the Bosch 4310 lots of brownie points with me and many other left-handed woodworking craftsmen out there. If you are right-handed, I know this is not a big deal, but for left-handed people, this feature totally rocks.

Blade Changing Bites

The blade that comes with the Bosch 4310 is a premium quality, 60-tooth thin-kerf blade that is carbide-tipped. This is an excellent blade that will give smooth, clean cuts on all types of wood. It can, however, be a pain to change the blade on the saw. If you don’t dismantle the top cover before you change it, you will need someone to help you. If you take on the task of dismantling the top cover, you can change the blade on your own, but it’s much more time consuming.

The Verdict

It seems like you would have to be a complete knucklehead to produce less than accurate cuts with the Bosch 4310. It’s a professional grade dual bevel miter saw with a lot of great features like the bevel detents and electronic brake. On the flip side, changing the blade is going to be a pain and the unit itself is rather heavy (about 70 pounds), so it can be difficult to handle and move around. If you can keep it in a location where you won’t need to move it regularly, the weight should not be a big issue.

For both small and large projects, the Bosch 4310 will get the job done right. It’s not perfect, but it is a durable tool equipped with the latest technology for quality results and ease of use. The Bosch 4310 promises to deliver quality, precision and comfort, and a miter saw with these qualities is something I would definitely be willing to invest in.
